Ibought a new hard drive for my Acer aspire 3 laptop because the old one was damaged. And when I tried to install windows on it, the hard drive is not showing in the boot menu. Accordingto Acer, the Acer Aspire One netbook can not boot from sd card. Although it can boot from USB, network, or internal hard disk. and try it again for from the boot menu. Butnow (well, since Windows 8 I think) there's some prefetching before the boot menu is shown in Windows unless the boot policy is set to legacy, so going that route (if it's even possible, I haven't tried) is a waste if one usually runs Linux, because the machine is actually rebooted after the non-default option is chosen.
