🎖️ Do Usb Cables Make A Difference For Audio
I'd been a long time believer that USB cable could make no difference and for last 5 years used a cheap generic of suitable length (e.g. amazon basics). Bits are bits etc and I read articles that supported my belief. Recently finally decided to try an audio cable on advice of trusted dealer and bought Audioquest Pearl.
Solidly on the pro-cable side was Sheldon Ginn, President, Kevro International, which distributes Tributaries cables in Canada. “Every day cables get the job done,” Ginn wrote, “but good speaker wire, interconnects and power cable … can make the difference between an enjoyable listen and one that produces goosebumps.”.
30 to 120 feet. 10 AWG. 50 to 200 feet. Note that there is a range given in feet rather than a strict length because the resistance is also affected by your speaker impedance. A 2 OHM speaker can have a maximum length of 3 feet for a 22 AWG, while an 8 OHM speaker can have a maximum length of 12 feet.
It is theoretically possible for there to be a difference between different speaker cables, and to an even lesser extent, analog audio interconnects. For most people though, this difference is

Three options: 1) not a USB cable (this is getting repetitive), 2) the DAC is drawing higher than the allowed current, 3) the DAC doesn't work over the full allowed voltage range. In each of these cases, something is failing to meet the requirements in the USB spec. Unfortunately, USB spec violations are quite common.
Usb cables make no difference. Digital signal is either there or it isn't. But some cable manufacturer will manage to convince some " audiophile" that gold plated unicorn tear infused usb cables for $400 will be better than a $10 job from best buy or wherever

I say "under the right scenarios", because some may just do as I explained with a 200 buck power cord and a 400 buck receiver. The better your system gets, the more power cords can and will make a difference, maybe small, maybe large, depends. Regardless of the specifics, (ICs, cables, etc) much wisdom in the above.
For your point on the PC only using USB 2.0 -- that really shouldn't matter. USB 2.0 has a bitrate of 480Mbps, while CD audio quality is only 1.4Mbps, so USB has more than enough bandwidth to support any audio quality needed. If you're worried about output power, the USB2.0 standard outputs up to 2.5W of power, while your DAC only dumps 1W.

I am not of the belief that audio cables can't make a difference (just ask the folks at The Cable Co), I have tested dozens of interconnects and a/c cords and there are definite differences. However, for USB, would shielding and construction really have an effect on the bits being sent and receiv
Modern USB allows the receiving device to control on when the signal (data packet) is sent, so will request at the speed it can handle. S/PDIF optical/coaxial, the source device controls the sending of the signal, whether or not the receiving device is ready for it or not. I like audio.
Hey Shawn, there is a huge difference between transferring data and listening to audio via USB DAC. With data transfers the last packet can actually be the first one that arrives and it doesn't really matter as long as the whole file shows up.
